Bill takes aim at rights of law-abiding gun owners

Protecting our Second Amendment rights                                                            Subscribe here

We all want to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and prevent incidents of mass violence. I believe we can do that by enforcing existing laws, empowering law enforcement, and addressing shortcomings in our mental health system.

I recently voted against a highly partisan gun control measure, H.R. 8, that targets law-abiding gun owners and wouldn’t keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

It expands gun control regulations and is a dangerous step toward a national gun registry.

Absurdly, if you lend a firearm to a friend who is a victim of domestic violence, under this bill, you could face up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine.

I’ll work with lawmakers of any party to prevent mass violence while also protecting and defending the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding gun owners.

Addressing the crisis on the southern border

I recently voted against a resolution that would block President Donald Trump’s emergency declaration on the border wall.

Our country faces a humanitarian and national security crisis on our southern border. The president must do what’s needed within his legal authority to secure the border and protect our country.

I believe the Speaker and House leadership could have come to the table earlier to negotiate a solution in good faith, but they didn’t. Instead, I believe they’re holding show votes and playing political games with border security.

Reforming government with the support of President Trump

Washington is broken, and the American people have little confidence in the federal government. Too often, it’s unresponsive, unaccountable, and wasteful.

As chairman of the Republican Study Committee’s (RSC) Government Efficiency, Accountability, and Reform (GEAR) Task Force, I’m working with other conservative lawmakers on proposals to reform the federal government.

We’re committed to making it more accountable, increasing efficiency, and fixing its gears so it works for the American people.

I recently met with President Trump in the Oval Office to discuss our reform efforts. I appreciate his support of our efforts and his commitment to our conservative agenda for reform.

Economic growth hits 13-year high

Our economy grew 3.1 percent last year. That’s the first time it’s hit 3 percent in 13 years, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.

Cutting taxes and reducing red tape are working. I'll continue supporting policies that create jobs and greater opportunities for more Americans.
