Congressman Gianforte’s Statement on Montanans Facing Another Year of Obamacare Premium Increases
Washington, D.C. – After Montana State Auditor Matt Rosendale announced that Montanans could face another Obamacare premium increase in 2018, Congressman Greg Gianforte released the following statement:
“Despite promises that Obamacare would lower premiums and out-of-pocket expenses, hard-working Montanans are facing yet another year of higher insurance costs. On average, Montanans have seen their premiums spike 133 percent since 2013. Next year, about 30,000 Montanans, a majority of the individual market in our state, could see their premiums rise by over 23 percent.
“Obamacare’s problems are not limited to skyrocketing premiums. Americans’ choices are disappearing. Nearly 40 percent fewer Obamacare insurers plan to offer plans this year than last. And with 19 of 23 Obamacare co-ops having failed, hundreds of thousands of Americans are without coverage.
“Obamacare is imploding, and one lesson we continue to learn from its failure is that we can’t afford for our health care to be run out of Washington. A top-down, one-size-fits-all system with Washington bureaucrats in charge is a recipe for failure, particularly for the people of Montana.
“I remain committed to repealing and replacing Obamacare with market-based, consumer-centered reforms that lower premiums, preserve rural access to care, and protect those with preexisting conditions.”
