Gianforte Named Chairman of Subcommittee on Interior, Energy, and Environment
WASHINGTON – Montana Congressman Greg Gianforte yesterday was named chairman of the Interior, Energy, and Environment (IEE) Subcommittee of the House Oversight and Government Reform (OGR) Committee.
“I am honored to serve as chairman of the Interior, Energy, and Environment Subcommittee. I appreciate the confidence of Chairman Gowdy, and look forward to working with him as we increase transparency, improve accountability, and reduce waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government,” Gianforte said.
OGR Committee Chairman Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., made the announcement and welcomed Gianforte.
“I am pleased to announce Rep. Gianforte will serve as the Committee’s IEE Subcommittee Chairman. Representing the great state of Montana, Rep. Gianforte understands firsthand the importance of our Interior Subcommittee,” Chairman Gowdy said. “I look forward to working with him as we continue to carry out much needed reforms.”
The IEE Subcommittee has oversight jurisdiction over food and drug safety, energy policy, public lands, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Department of the Interior.
Gianforte has identified Montana priorities for the subcommittee.
“Knowing the hurdles Montanans are facing from the federal government, it’s important that the subcommittee review the federal permitting process, including for energy, timber, grazing, and recreation,” Gianforte said. “Looking into National Park Service management and getting to the bottom of maintenance issues are also priorities.”
Gianforte has been a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee since June 2017.
Gianforte is also a member of the House Committee on Natural Resources.
