Gianforte Statement on Bipartisan Vote Against Impeachment

October 31, 2019
Press Release

Congressman Greg Gianforte (R-Mont.) released the following statement after the House voted to continue to impeach President Trump:

“I voted today with Republicans and Democrats to oppose Nancy Pelosi and Adam Schiff’s partisan efforts to impeach President Trump. Pelosi and Schiff continue their sham process to overturn the results of the 2016 election. The American people deserve to know what Pelosi and Schiff are doing behind closed doors, but their resolution does nothing to guarantee transparency, make transcripts available, or allow the president to defend himself.”

Background:

The U.S. House of Representatives voted today 232-196 to continue ongoing impeachment investigations against President Trump. All Republicans and two Democrats voted against the measure.

During Gianforte’s statewide town hall on Monday that reached nearly 100,000 Montanans, 87 percent of respondents do not believe President Trump should be impeached, and 91 percent believe an impeachment inquiry of President Trump hinders Congress’ ability to focus on issues important to the American people.
