Gianforte Statement on Economic Growth in Second Quarter
Montana Congressman Greg Gianforte issued the following statement after the Bureau of Economic Analysis released its report on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2018:
“The economic policies of President Trump and congressional Republicans are working for Montana. We cut taxes for hardworking Montanans and cut red tape for Montana businesses, and the positive results continue to come in. The economy is growing at its best pace in four years, unemployment is down in Montana and across America, and more than 2 million new jobs were created in the last year. I am committed to building on this success and continuing pro-growth policies to increase opportunities for Montanans.”
Economic growth in the second quarter of 2018 reached 4.1 percent, the fastest pace since the third quarter of 2014, according to today’s Bureau of Economic Analysis report.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics,
- The national unemployment rate has fallen in the last year to 4 percent,
- Montana’s unemployment rate has dropped in the last year to 3.8 percent,
- Nearly 2.4 million new jobs were created in the last year.
- Nearly 2,900 new Montana jobs were created in the last year, including 400 in June.
U.S. consumer confidence is nearly 8 percent higher than it was one year ago, according to the Conference Board.
Small business optimism reached another record high in the second quarter of 2018, according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The business outlook for manufacturers also reached a record high in the second quarter of 2018, according to the National Association of Manufacturers.
