Gianforte Statement on Passage of North Korea, Russia, and Iran Sanctions

July 25, 2017
Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Montana Congressman Greg Gianforte released the following statement after Congress overwhelmingly passed sanctions against North Korea, Russia, and Iran:

“Today, we sent a strong message to nations that are actively working to undermine the safety and security of the American people: You will face consequences for your actions,” asserted Gianforte. “We will not stand for bad actors who support terrorism, develop nuclear warheads, and launch cyberattacks that threaten Americans.”

The Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (H.R. 3364) holds nations – North Korea, Russia, and Iran – accountable for threatening America’s national security. The bill cuts off access to funds for North Korea, which is working to develop nuclear missiles capable of reaching the United States. The bill imposes sanctions against Russia for its cyberattacks against the United States. The bill also sanctions Iran for its support of terrorism and its efforts to develop ballistic missiles that target America’s allies, including Israel.
