Gianforte: “We Have a Crisis on Our Southern Border”
Congressman Greg Gianforte last night urged lawmakers to secure the U.S. southern border.
“We have a crisis on our southern border, even if Democratic leaders try desperately to deny it,” Gianforte said, referring to comments from Democrats that there is no crisis.

Gianforte pointed to two recent events as further evidence of a border crisis. First, he cited how nearly 100,000 people were taken into custody in April after trying to illegally cross the border from Mexico to the U.S. The apprehensions marked the highest total in one month since April 2007.
“Imagine if the population of Billings, Montana was caught crossing the border in just one month,” Gianforte said. “That’s the crisis our country faces.”
Second, he referred to last week’s sentencing of a Mexican citizen in Billings for possessing 34 pounds of methamphetamines with intent to distribute. Gianforte said, “With Montana facing a meth epidemic, we must secure our border and stop the flow Mexican meth into our communities.”
Gianforte cited his visit to the U.S.-Mexico border in January 2019, before imploring lawmakers to do something.
“Congress has an obligation to act. I’ve stood with President Trump to secure it. Let’s build a wall where it’s feasible. The safety and security of our country and communities depend on it,” Gianforte said.
